more sniping | 2002-10-20 - 8:08 p.m. ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- The police chief at the center of the Washington-area sniper investigation revealed Sunday that someone left a message at the site of Saturday's shooting outside an Ashland, Virginia, restaurant. "To the person who left us a message at the Ponderosa last night, you gave us a telephone number," Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose said in a short news conference. "We do want to talk to you. Call us at the number you provided." Moose asked the media to carry his message "clearly" and "often." He did not take any questions, or elaborate. He did not clarify whether the message left at the shooting scene came in the form of a note or phone call. One of Moose's assistants told CNN after the briefing that the chief's words would "make sense" to the person who left the message. That's good, I think, because this message does not make a pizquita of sense to me. What does Sr. Moose mean when he says, "Call us at the number you provided?" That makes even menos sense than saying, "Visit me at your house," or "Vote for Bill Simon." No wonder they're talking about taking the caso away from the Montgomery County Police Department and giving it to a federal agency.
